Why Quality, Not Cheap, Should Guide Your Beauty Choices
Maturing as a woman means recognizing that cheap beauty services aren’t always a bargain. I’ve been in the beauty industry since 2007, and I’ve definitely done my fair share of discounts and underpricing myself. I have finally reached a level of confidence in my work where I am no longer available for discounts, because I know my pricing reflects my years of experience and client results.
When you’re investing in your look and your safety, ask the right questions:
- Are they licensed, certified, or both?
- Do they pursue ongoing training and take courses to stay current?
- What kind of products do they use? Are they budget brands or high-quality, reputable brands?
- Do they rent a studio, work out of a shared space, or operate from a home studio, and how does that influence pricing?
- If a price seems unusually low, what shortcuts might be behind it or a lack of experience?
- How long have they been in the industry, and what’s their track record?
- Do they have reviews from real clients? What do those reviews say about safety, results, consistency, and professionalism?
In the lash industry specifically:
- How do they prep your lashes and set up for the service?
- What is the lash retention like?
- What’s the quality of the lash products they use?
- Do they follow proper sanitation procedures and hygiene practices?
- Do they educate you on how to maintain your lashes after the appointment?
- Overall experience from start to finish: How did you feel in their presence? Were you calm, comfortable, and relaxed during the appointment? Did you feel listened to and respected throughout the process?
In the beauty industry,I am now focused on quality, not chasing discounts. I’m not looking for cheap beauty professionals—I want the best. When you invest in a higher price, you’re more likely to get what you want from a skilled artist who knows what they’re doing, and you’ll usually be happier with the outcome.
If the price feels high, ask what goes into it rather than assuming it’s just a markup. Quality products and experienced hands come with costs—and they’re often the difference between a good result and a salon misstep. Remember: you get what you pay for.
